Workshop details
Scientific careers outside academia
Tyler Ford (Addgene)
Many junior graduate students haven't begun thinking about career options and many senior graduate student don't know what they can do with their degrees. In this workshop, I'll give you a sampling of the opportunities available to you by introducing you to some of the many PhD's at Addgene. I'll also provide tips on how to get yourself out there and start thinking about careers.

Communicating Science
Carolyn J. Kroehler (The Center for Communicating Science from Virginia Tech)
The workshop will help participants develop tools to connect and communicate with people about science across differences - whether those differences be based on education level, academic discipline, research specialty, race, culture, religion, or other factors. The workshop will consist of imaginative group activities derived from the theatre arts, such as improvisation, storytelling, and creative problem solving.
Labs of the Future: Transforming Research Labs into Sustainable Spaces
Allison Paradise (MyGreenLab)
With research laboratories consuming more energy, resources, and producing more hazardous waste than other buildings on campus, this workshop will demonstrate how 'green labs' are paving the way for the next generation of scientists to conduct their work with minimal environmental impact while preserving their scientific integrity. Discussion will focus on identifying opportunities for conservation and developing easy, practical solutions for integrating best practices.
